Wreck This Journal: Wrap something with this page.

Standard

Eeeeeeee, presents!!!!!!!!!

This page puzzled me for a while…

Wrap something with this page.

Wrap something with this page.

I thought about it until my head hurt, and then decided to just go for it.  I ripped out the page, and started colouring it.  I wanted to make it a bit fancy, so I used glitter crayons to colour stripes.  I have included a couple of extra pictures below to show the effect of the glitter crayons – the give a very nice shiny effect, and they have actual glitter in – GENIUS!!!!!

Anyway, once my page was coloured, I started looking for something to wrap.  This involved me wandering around the house and literally looking for something small that I wouldn’t miss.  I’m one of these annoying people who throws things out if I don’t need/want them, so this was a difficult task!

Eventually I decided on the thing to wrap.  It was a keyring that I had bought for a friend that I no longer speak to.  It wasn’t appropriate to give as a gift, but I didn’t want to throw it away, so I’d kept it in a drawer.  I don’t know why, because like I said above, I normally am pretty good at thowing out unneccessary junk!

So, I wrapped the keyring in tissue paper to bulk it out a bit and make it easier to wrap, and then wrapped it in the page, adding some curly-wurly ribbon for that final touch!

I wanted to be able to put this page back into my WTJ, so I used coloured paper to create a new ‘page’.  I have done this for all instructions which require me to remove a page, so that I can put everything back in where it belongs.  Because I’m like that 🙂

So, in this case, I stuck the present on to this bright yellow page, wrote on the instruction and added some present stickers.

My WTJ is pretty bulky now – there’s no chance of carrying it everywhere with me anymore, my handbag just isn’t big enough!!

Wreck This Journal: The cover (Take Two)

Standard

So, I said I had a few ideas for redoing my cover, and here is version number 2!

I managed to remove the owl (as discussed in this entry here) and it pulled off about as much of the cover as I had expected. That Power Pritt is strong stuff!

Before I redid the cover, I wanted new way to hold my WTJ shut because I hated having to use rubber bands. I had some ribbon handles left over from a gift bag that I had cut up for my ‘circles’ page (which is still, and may forever be, a Work In Progress).

I made holes in the covers and reinforced them so that hopefully they won’t rip through the covers if I pull them too tightly!  Then I threaded them through, and now my WTJ ties shut – no more horrible rubber bands!!! 🙂

Once the handles were in place, I started on re-covering the cover. I took this lovely furry fabric and cut it to size. I wanted to keep the words ‘Wreck This Journal’ on the front, so I had to cut a hole in the fabric, which was a bit of a nightmare to do, but I managed it!  And I said a little thank you to the craft gods for the whole being in the right place!

I stuck everything down and folded the material around the other side to neaten it up a bit, and on the back I’ve stuck a sheet of funky pink leopard-print felt. That hides the edges and I think it looks pretty cool 🙂

Hopefully this cover will last longer than the last one. My next decision is this: should I do the back cover the same? I do like things to match, so it seems like the ‘me’ thing to do.

What do you think?

So this is what my cover looks like at the moment.

cover

I made a conscious decision to keep the cover as plain as possible.  The inside is going to be colourful and pretty, so I thought I’d stick with a black and white theme for the cover.

I had some silver gift ribbon left over from Christmas, which I decided to put in strips down the sides of the cover.  They required A LOT of gluing to convince them to stay in place, and still they have had to be re-glued twice in the last few weeks, so they are now looking a bit tatty.

I think this cover is going to have to be redone at some point.  I would do it now if I could.  The only thing stopping me is the owl.  I love this owl. He started life as a tag on a gorgeous tote bag that I bought from Peacocks either last year or the year before.  He fell off after a little while, but parting with him was never an option!

So I thought he would be perfect for the front of my WTJ! 🙂

Typically, although the ribbons don’t want to stay in place, the owl seems to be stuck fast!  I have tried removing him, but I think I’m more likely to end up with a big hole in the front of my journal!  So that makes redecorating the cover a bit more difficult!

The hole in the owl’s ear used to have a little chain that connected it to the tote bag.  This was lost long ago, but I needed something to thread through the hole.  I had a rummage through my ‘bits and bobs’ drawer and found this old phone charm.  It has the letters of my name on little square beads.

It’s a good thing I keep all these things that ‘normal’ people would have thrown away, isn’t it? 🙂

I do love the owl and the charm, so I can put up with this cover for a bit longer.

There will definitely be a ‘Take Two’ at some point, but it does look like any further decoration is going to have to be done around my little owl friend!

I have a few ideas up my sleeve though so watch this space! 🙂
